Not having your own means of transportation in Santorini, especially and ATV, means missing out on many of the island’s gems. While public transportation does exist, it doesn’t allow you the freedom to move around the various spots on the island at your own pace. Taxis can quickly become expensive if you have to use them for every trip.
Using a car isn’t practical either, as it can be dangerous to venture into certain areas of Santorini. Between steep paths, rocky terrain, and limited parking, it can be quite a hassle.
Renting an ATV, on the other hand, will give you complete freedom to reach even the most remote parts of the island at a reasonable cost. And I won’t hide the fact that it’s a lot more fun to drive! Discover everything you need to know about renting an ATV or buggy in Greece, specifically in Santorini, for your vacation.
Renting an ATV in Santorini
If you’re really looking for adventure in Santorini, I strongly recommend considering exploring the island on a quad. While you will need a driver’s license, you don’t need prior experience to ride one.
And don’t worry, when they deliver the quad to you, they will explain how the buttons, handles, and other necessary things work. Honestly, it’s pretty straightforward.

Where to rent an ATV in Santorini
You can rent an ATV from almost any part of the island. I believe there are hundreds of different rental companies. Personally, I rented my quad in Fira, and an employee delivered it directly to my hotel at the agreed-upon time. Honestly, rentals in Santorini are quite easy.
I had made my reservation directly on BikesBooking, and I didn’t have to worry about anything else. When it comes to ATV and motorcycle rentals in Santorini, you’ll have plenty of options on this website.
How Much Does Renting a Quad in Santorini Cost?
The cost of renting a quad in Santorini varies depending on where you rent it. I think in slightly less touristy towns like Perissa or Kamari, it will be cheaper than in Fira or Oia. You can expect a range of around 30 to 40 euros per day for the rental, including insurance. But here are some tips:
- Try to negotiate prices if you rent on the spot.
- You can fit two people on one quad, so you can share the expenses.
- Budget for the cost of gasoline.
- They may try to sell you the more powerful quads, but honestly, the basic ones will suffice, and it doesn’t make a big difference.
Tips for Renting an ATV in Santorini
Renting an ATV in Santorini is really simple, but getting around the island can be a bit more challenging. The signage on the island can sometimes be limited, and I strongly advise you to exercise great caution while moving around. Here are some tips that can be helpful to make your experience enjoyable and keep you safe:
- Always wear your helmet. No, it’s not cool to have the wind in your hair and then end up with a head injury in the event of an accident.
- Make sure to have your driver’s license with you.
- If the tank was nearly empty when you received the ATV, return it nearly empty as well, and vice versa.
- Don’t forget to have travel insurance that covers quad riding. I always use Chapka Assurance, and I highly recommend it!
Filling up with Gas in Santorini
Getting gas in Greece is a bit different from USA. Here, there are no self-service pumps, but an attendant will come to fill your tank for you. Don’t worry about which type of fuel to use; they know.
Usually, they prefer cash payment, but if they refuse the card, insist a bit, and they will accept it. Consider using the Wise card to avoid fees.
An Incredible ATV Experience
Visiting the entire island of Santorini in a single day on an ATV is not possible. While it’s not very large, it’s dense with points of interest. We rented an ATV for the entire duration of our stay, which allowed us to thoroughly explore the island. Riding along the Aegean Sea on a quad is incredibly stylish!
In any case, regardless of the length of your stay in Santorini, I strongly encourage you to spend at least one day exploring the island on an ATV. I assure you, it will help you discover some lesser-known parts of the island that are worth a visit. Yes, Santorini is not just about Oia; it’s much more than that.
